The operational decision
Give the on-duty operator a clear way to restore the prior arrangement. A small pilot should prove one defined answering task before broader forwarding changes. Write down the normal phone arrangement so the team can restore it without reconstructing the setup from memory.
Prepare the workflow
Write the exact control location and original destination, identify who can make the change, and rehearse the restoration using a test route.
Example wording for approval
“If this information pilot fails its check, restore the documented original route and notify the office owner. Do not improvise a replacement destination.”
Worked example
A fictional pilot sends callers to the wrong greeting after a configuration edit. The backup operator needs the previous destination and the precise restore control immediately. The rollback card should say how to make the change and how to verify it with an external test call. Do not delete the failed configuration before preserving its relevant version for investigation. Restoration is complete when callers reach the approved prior route, not when the operator sees a green save notification.
Handoff record
Record these task-specific fields: control location, original destination, restore owner, confirmation step.
Acceptance check
Ask the backup operator to follow the card. A pass requires verifying the restored route from an external test call, not merely saving a setting.
