The operational decision
Let callers leave the automated conversation without explaining a personal reason. A useful general-information conversation is short enough to follow and flexible enough to repeat. Clarity comes from pacing, concrete nouns and honest limits rather than sounding like a clinician.
Prepare the workflow
Provide the approved contact instruction immediately; do not require a symptom, identity check or satisfaction question before giving the route.
Example wording for approval
“You can contact the practice directly using its public office number. You do not need to explain your personal request to this information assistant.”
Worked example
A fictional caller opens with I do not want to use an automated assistant. The script should give the approved practice contact without requiring an explanation or three menu answers first. If the configured route only supplies a number, say so rather than announcing a transfer. The reviewer should time the path in steps, not assume a faster voice solves it. The essential outcome is that the caller can reach the intended next channel without supplying patient details.
Handoff record
Record these task-specific fields: human-contact phrase, route, operating hours, owner.
Acceptance check
Ask for a person before any other question. The assistant should provide the route without forcing a category selection or collecting patient details.
